Renault Nissan India Plant Surpasses 4.5 Million Powertrain Units

Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd’s manufacturing plant in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, has achieved a significant milestone, producing over 4.5 million powertrain units since it began operations in 2010. The 600-acre facility supplies powertrain units to both domestic and international markets for Renault and Nissan.

To date, the facility has manufactured over 2.75 million Renault and Nissan vehicles and produced seven engine types along with three types of gearboxes. Out of the 4.5 million powertrain units, production has included 2.83 million engines and 1.67 million gearboxes. Additionally, the plant has produced over 160,000 electric vehicle reducer components for export.

“This production milestone is a proud achievement for RNAIPL,” said Keerthi Prakash, Managing Director of Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd. “Beyond supporting our Chennai plant’s car production, we’ve also supplied powertrain units globally. With the Renault Nissan alliance’s $600 million investment, we’re preparing our infrastructure to support engines and gearboxes for new models.”

The plant’s capabilities include producing engine components such as cylinder heads and blocks, machined to precision, with engine and gearbox assembly carried out on-site. The facility is equipped to produce engines ranging from 800 cc to 1500 cc and supports gearbox production with gear machining, shaft machining, clutch housing, and gear heat treatment capabilities.
