Remsons Industries, a longstanding manufacturer of automotive components, has strengthened its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) segment by acquiring a 51% stake in Astro Motors, a Pune-based EV maker focused on electric three-wheelers for cargo, passenger, and micro-mobility use. The transaction is valued at ₹14 crore, with ₹4 crore in equity shares to be issued on a preferential basis—pending shareholder approval—and ₹10 crore paid in cash.
Astro Motors operates a manufacturing unit in Chakan, Pune, and is among the few in India offering geared electric three-wheelers. Its flagship model, Astro Navya, boasts a payload capacity of 747 kg and a range of 131 km per charge, powered by a 10.2 kWh battery. The vehicle is engineered to deliver performance in tough terrains and has demonstrated its capabilities by reaching Umling La Pass in Ladakh—at 19,024 feet—the highest motorable road in the world.
The company is steadily expanding its dealership network and plans to roll out passenger EV models within the next four to six months. This acquisition marks a significant step for Remsons Industries as it diversifies into the high-growth electric mobility space. The surge in e-commerce and rapid delivery services has amplified demand for efficient last-mile transportation, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas. With Astro’s established R&D and its focused EV product lineup, the company is aiming to secure a prominent position in the electric three-wheeler market, targeting entry into the top five manufacturers in the segment within the next three years.
