Reliance Infrastructure Limited has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from NHPC Limited, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise, for the development of a 390 MW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar power project integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The project, once completed, will add 700 MWp of solar DC capacity and 780 MWh of BESS capacity to the Reliance Group’s energy portfolio. This award strengthens the group’s position in the renewable energy sector, particularly in integrated solar and storage solutions. The winning tariff for the project was set at INR 3.13 per kWh, placing it among the most cost-effective solar+BESS projects in the country.

The project was awarded under a competitive bidding process initiated by NHPC, which received responses from 15 bidders, with 14 qualifying for the electronic reverse auction. The tender was oversubscribed nearly four times, reflecting strong industry interest in firm and dispatchable renewable energy assets.

With this new project, the Reliance Group’s renewable energy pipeline increases to over 3 GWp of solar DC capacity and more than 3.5 GWh of BESS capacity, making it the largest participant in India’s solar-plus-storage segment. The group’s existing portfolio, led by Reliance Power, already includes approximately 2.5 GWp of solar capacity and 2.5 GWh of BESS.

This development marks a key step in Reliance Group’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in clean energy and align with India’s transition towards low-carbon electricity generation. It reflects the group’s intent to play a significant role in shaping the future of sustainable energy in the country.

Reliance Infrastructure Limited is among India’s major infrastructure companies, engaged in developing and operating projects in sectors such as power, roads, metro rail, and defence through various Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs). The company also provides engineering and construction services for large-scale infrastructure projects.

Through its SPVs, Reliance Infrastructure has delivered key infrastructure assets, including the Mumbai metro rail project developed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model, and various highway projects implemented under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) framework. In addition to infrastructure development, the company is an active participant in the power distribution sector, making it a diversified utility and infrastructure services provider with a pan-India presence.
