Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has signed a binding long-term Supply and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Samsung C&T Corporation for the supply of green ammonia over a period of 15 years. Deliveries under the agreement are scheduled to begin in the second half of FY2029. Valued at over US$3 billion, this deal ranks among the largest global agreements for long-term green ammonia offtake and signals a major advancement in the transition toward sustainable energy solutions.

The agreement establishes a new benchmark in the global clean energy market, positioning India as a significant exporter of green fuels. The project is built on a fully integrated value chain anchored within the country, including domestic manufacturing of critical clean energy equipment. This approach aligns closely with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which seeks to accelerate the nation’s transition to low-carbon energy while strengthening domestic industrial capabilities.

Reliance Industries is currently developing a comprehensive New Energy platform that spans renewable power generation, energy storage, green hydrogen production, and downstream green fuels and chemicals. A key component of this strategy is the in-house manufacturing of essential clean energy technologies, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and cost competitiveness.

Central to this initiative is the indigenisation of critical technologies such as solar modules, battery energy storage systems, and electrolysers. By establishing domestic manufacturing capacity for these components, Reliance aims to support the Government of India’s vision of self-reliance while fostering leadership in advanced energy technologies. This integrated ecosystem is designed to deliver reliable and scalable green energy solutions not only for India but also for global markets.

The partnership with Samsung C&T marks the first in a series of anticipated long-term agreements that will underpin the expansion of Reliance’s New Energy platform. These collaborations are expected to accelerate the development of large-scale green hydrogen production and strengthen the company’s position in the emerging global green fuels market.

Commenting on the development, Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries Limited, emphasized the importance of the partnership in advancing India’s clean energy ambitions. He noted that the agreement reflects a commitment to delivering green ammonia that is both cost-effective and dependable, while also contributing to the broader goal of energy transition.

He further highlighted that the New Energy initiative is designed not only to support decarbonisation but also to build a robust industrial ecosystem in India. By combining renewable resources with manufacturing expertise, technological innovation, and skilled talent, Reliance aims to produce value-added green fuels and chemicals at scale. The initiative places strong emphasis on developing domestic capabilities in solar, energy storage, and electrolyser technologies under a “Make in India” framework.

Reliance Industries is India’s largest private sector company, with operations spanning hydrocarbon exploration, refining, petrochemicals, advanced materials, renewable energy, retail, digital services, and media. Through its New Energy business, the company is building one of the world’s most integrated clean energy ecosystems.

A cornerstone of this vision is the development of a large-scale renewable energy project in Kutch, designed to provide round-the-clock clean power. This project will support integrated green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities in Jamnagar, anchored by the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex. Spread across 5,000 acres, this advanced manufacturing hub will house gigafactories producing solar modules, batteries, electrolysers, fuel cells, and power electronics.

Reliance has also committed to achieving net carbon zero by 2035, reinforcing its leadership in sustainability and energy transformation. The agreement with Samsung C&T represents a significant milestone in this journey, strengthening India’s role in the global green energy supply chain and accelerating the shift toward a low-carbon future.
