Reliance Defence Ltd has entered into a strategic partnership with Coastal Mechanics Inc, a US-based firm, to tap into India’s ₹20,000 crore defence maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) market, the company announced on Monday. This collaboration will provide comprehensive MRO and upgrade services for various Indian military assets, including over 100 Jaguar fighter jets, more than 100 MiG-29 fighters, Apache attack helicopters, L-70 air defence guns, and other legacy systems.
The two companies will establish a joint venture at MIHAN (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) in Maharashtra to cater to both domestic and international markets. This facility will offer a full spectrum of MRO and upgrade solutions for India’s air and land defence platforms.
Coastal Mechanics, established in 1975, is an approved contractor for the US Department of Defence, supplying critical components to the US Air Force and Army. The company has extensive experience in manufacturing spare parts for various weapon systems and holds DD2345 Critical Data Agreement clearances for over 40 years.
This partnership aligns with the Indian government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, with Reliance Defence aiming to become one of the top three defence exporters in the country. The deal also reflects India’s strategic shift from asset replacement to extending the lifecycle and improving performance-based logistics for its military equipment.
