Rapido and UP Police Join Hands to Promote Safe Riding, Distribute Free Helmets in Noida

Through initiatives like this, they hope to create a safer environment for riders and inspire other organizations and individuals to contribute to this critical cause

In a significant move to enhance road safety and encourage responsible riding practices among two-wheeler users, Rapido, India’s leading bike-taxi aggregator platform, has teamed up with the UP Police to conduct a free helmet distribution drive. The initiative, held near the Botanical Garden Metro Station in Noida, aimed to create awareness about the importance of using certified helmets and adopting safe driving practices to reduce the risk of injuries and fatalities in road accidents. Spearheaded by Saurabh Srivastava, ACP Traffic, Gautam Buddh Nagar, the campaign received overwhelming support from attendees and commuters.

During the event, UP traffic police sensitized more than 100 two-wheeler riders, offering them free Rapido branded helmets. The beneficiaries included young commuters and low-income families, who often lack access to proper protective gear. The helmets provided were ISO certified, ensuring adherence to stringent quality standards, and the attendees were educated on the proper usage and fitting of helmets, as well as the importance of following other safety measures while riding.

Pavan Guntupalli, Co-Founder of Rapido, emphasized the vulnerability of two-wheeler riders on Indian roads and the alarming number of fatalities they face. He stated, “Two-wheeler riders are most vulnerable on Indian roads, and the negligence in using preventive gear such as helmets is a major concern. Wearing certified helmets properly can significantly reduce serious injuries in accidents involving riders. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of the UP Police-led initiative, guiding riders towards safe driving practices.”

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a staggering number of lives are lost in road accidents involving two-wheelers. In 2021 alone, approximately 70,000 riders lost their lives, accounting for around 44% of the total traffic accident fatalities. Rapido is committed to addressing this pressing issue and aims to contribute to transforming the current scenario by promoting safe driving practices among riders, making two-wheeler commuting safer across the country.

Rapido, operating in over 100 cities across India, offers bike-taxi and auto services through its user-friendly app. The platform allows users to book rides with minimal wait time and maximum safety, providing an additional helmet for the pillion rider at no extra cost. This initiative further underscores the company’s dedication to ensuring the safety of both riders and passengers.

As Rapido continues to expand its services, it envisions making two-wheeler riding a secure and reliable mode of transportation in the country. By collaborating with the UP Police for the free helmet distribution drive, Rapido demonstrates its commitment to promoting road safety and responsible riding practices among the masses.
