Bajaj Auto’s Board of Directors approved the reappointment of Rajiv Bajaj as the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for a new five-year term, starting April 1, 2025. The decision was made during a board meeting on March 18, 2025.

Rajiv Bajaj holds a distinction in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pune (1988) and a Master’s degree in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from the University of Warwick (1990). Upon returning from the UK, he began his career at Bajaj Auto, working across various departments, including Manufacturing and Supply Chain (1990-95), R&D and Engineering (1995-2000), and Marketing and Sales (2000-2005). In April 2005, he was appointed Managing Director of Bajaj Auto and has been serving on the company’s board since March 5, 2002.

Rajiv Bajaj’s leadership has been key in transforming Bajaj Auto into a dominant force in the motorcycle market. His vision for expanding into the motorcycle segment, which he identified as having significant growth potential, reshaped the company’s future. Under his leadership, Bajaj Auto transitioned from being a scooter manufacturer to a leading motorcycle original equipment manufacturer (OEM). In 2005, he was honored as Autocar Professional’s “Man of the Year” for driving this transition.

A strong advocate for brand-driven strategies, Rajiv Bajaj has played an essential role in the development and success of models like the Pulsar, which contributed to Bajaj’s rise in the global two-wheeler market. In recent years, he also oversaw the re-launch of the iconic Chetak scooter, now in an electric avatar. Launched in January 2020, the Chetak EV has quickly become one of India’s best-selling electric two-wheelers.

In the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, Bajaj Auto sold 21,24,590 two-wheelers in the domestic market, reflecting a 3.27% increase year-on-year. Additionally, exports rose by 14.52%, reaching 15,41,987 units. In FY2025, Bajaj Auto holds the third spot in the domestic motorcycle market, with 18,76,490 units sold and an 18% market share. The company also leads the two-wheeler export segment.

Bajaj Auto is the leader in India’s three-wheeler market, both domestically and internationally. From April 2024 to February 2025, Bajaj Auto sold 441,501 three-wheelers, a 4% year-on-year increase, capturing 65% of the total market share. In exports, the company sold 166,703 three-wheelers out of 278,006 made-in-India units, a rise of 18% year-on-year, maintaining a 60% share in global three-wheeler exports.
