Founded in 2016 at IIT Madras Research Park, QNu Labs is revolutionizing cybersecurity with its quantum-safe technologies, establishing India as a frontrunner in the field of quantum cryptography. The company made its mark in 2018 by launching Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), putting India on the global map of quantum technology.
QNu Labs has had a remarkable journey. In 2022, the startup triumphed in the iDEX Open Challenge 2.0, developing a 150-km QKD system with trusted nodes and completing successful trials with the Indian Army. With funding under the NSCS grant, QNu Labs built a Hub-and-Spoke QKD network and secured its first major order from the Indian Armed Forces for quantum-secure wireline networks utilizing existing optical fibers.
By 2023, QNu addressed security challenges over Wi-Fi by introducing a Quantum Secure VPN solution using its Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) and a NIST-approved Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) algorithm, offering enhanced protection for wireless networks. In 2024, the company delivered 25 QKD systems to the Indian Navy, marking a key milestone in securing communication channels.
QNu Labs offers a range of cutting-edge quantum-safe products designed to enhance security in various sectors. One of their flagship offerings is Tropos, a Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG), which serves as the new “Root of Trust.”
Tropos is already being used in critical applications by organizations like DRDO, WESEE, and the Indian Army to provide secure wireless solutions. Another key product is Armos, a Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) solution, which has been successfully delivered to clients such as the Indian Navy, Defence PSU BEL, a Middle Eastern client, and the Indian Army, strengthening secure communication channels.
In addition, QNu Labs offers QShield, a quantum-secure Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform that provides four distinct services to ensure robust data protection. QShield is already in use by numerous clients, offering them advanced security features to safeguard their sensitive information. Through these innovative products, QNu Labs is playing a pivotal role in advancing quantum-safe technologies for critical applications in defense, government, and private sectors.
As part of the National Quantum Mission (NQM), QNu Labs is working to develop the world’s first end-to-end quantum-safe heterogeneous network. This innovative network will combine free-space QKD, indigenous components like SPDs and encryptors, QHSM, and a software-defined QKD controller, positioning India at the forefront of global quantum communication technology.
