The Punjab government is set to draw an investment of Rs 1,056 crore with a new initiative aimed at boosting clean energy in the state. As part of this effort, the government is considering establishing 66 solar power plants, each with a capacity of 4 MW.
This significant undertaking was discussed in a recent high-level meeting led by Aman Arora, the state Minister of New and Renewable Energy Sources, along with Power Minister Harbhajan Singh. The meeting also included senior officials from the departments of new and renewable energy, power, and the Punjab Development Commission.
The proposed solar power project is expected to be a major contributor to the state’s clean energy goals, generating approximately 390 million units (MU) of electricity each year. This large-scale initiative, focused on feeder-level solarisation, is projected to yield substantial financial benefits, with estimated annual savings of around Rs 136 crore.
Furthermore, the project is anticipated to generate a substantial number of employment opportunities across the state, especially benefiting skilled and semi-skilled workers. This will significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of the region, enhancing livelihoods and fostering economic growth.
By pursuing this ambitious plan, the Punjab government is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development and energy independence, while also providing a significant boost to the local economy through both job creation and substantial investment.
