The Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, who oversees the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution as well as the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, will perform the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Testing Facility at the National Test House (NTH) RRSL Camp in Bengaluru.
This significant development expands NTH’s footprint in southern India and is part of a broader initiative to establish testing capabilities for emerging areas such as EV batteries and chargers. The new facility, located on the RRSL Jakkuru campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka, is set to play a pivotal role in advancing the electric vehicle sector.
It is designed to enhance the region’s EV ecosystem, providing essential support to the industry and aligning with broader environmental sustainability and innovation goals. Equipped with cutting-edge testing equipment, this laboratory will be capable of performing a wide range of tests.
These include evaluating electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMF), compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) standards, functional safety, durability (life cycle), and climate conditions such as ingress protection (IP), ultraviolet (UV) radiation, and corrosion.
Additionally, it will conduct mechanical and material tests including flammability and glow wire assessments. This new EV testing facility is a vital asset for manufacturers in southern India, offering robust support for the growth and development of the electric vehicle industry.
By providing comprehensive testing services, the facility will help ensure that electric vehicles meet rigorous quality standards before they are introduced to the market. This aligns with India’s commitment to advancing sustainable and green energy solutions and underscores the nation’s dedication to bolstering its infrastructure for electric vehicles.
The National Test House, operating under the Department of Consumer Affairs of the Government of India, is a leading scientific organization known for its expertise in testing and quality assurance across various fields. NTH serves as an empanelled testing and quality assurance agency for numerous prestigious national projects, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, Bullet Train project, Metro projects, fertilizer testing, and electricity projects.
Additionally, NTH is the sole government agency in India authorized to provide drone certification. With state-of-the-art testing laboratories located in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Ghaziabad, Guwahati, Jaipur, and Varanasi, NTH is a cornerstone of India’s testing infrastructure.
The RRSL Bengaluru facility, a Regional Standards Reference Laboratory for Legal Metrology (Weights & Measures), will also present an OIML-approved certificate to M/S Tatsuno India Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, in recognition of their dispensing unit (petrol pump) on this occasion.
