Praj Industries Limited has announced the launch of an Advanced Precision Fermentation Lab at Praj Matrix, marking a significant step toward advancing next-generation industrial biotechnology and supporting India’s transition to sustainable biomanufacturing.
The announcement was made on the occasion of the 18th Foundation Day of Praj Matrix. The newly established facility is designed to accelerate innovation in precision fermentation and bioprocess engineering, enabling the development of efficient, scalable, and low-carbon solutions across multiple industries.
The lab will focus on high-capacity, AI-enabled precision fermentation systems aimed at improving process efficiency, minimizing scale-up risks, and enhancing reliability. It will also strengthen the capabilities of PrajHiPurity Systems, Praj’s wholly owned subsidiary specializing in precision fermenters and ultra-pure water systems for pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications.
With applications spanning pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, biofuels, and beverages, the facility is expected to play a key role in advancing next-generation biomanufacturing. The initiative also aligns with the Government of India’s BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) programme, which aims to build a globally competitive and sustainable bio-based economy.
On the same occasion, Praj Industries formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BRIC–National Centre for Cell Science (BRIC–NCCS), in the presence of Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The collaboration is structured as an academia–industry partnership to accelerate the transition from scientific discovery to commercial-scale biomanufacturing.
The partnership will focus on advanced bioprocess development, discovery of novel biomolecules and microbial strains, and skill development through training programs, internships, and joint research initiatives. It is also expected to foster long-term collaboration between researchers and industry practitioners.
Dr Rajesh S Gokhale noted that strengthening academia–industry linkages and building a skilled scientific workforce will be critical to India’s bioeconomy growth. He added that such initiatives will support translational research and accelerate innovation across the biotechnology sector.
Dr Pramod Chaudhari highlighted that the new lab integrates biology, engineering, and digital technologies to deliver scalable and sustainable solutions. He emphasized that the collaboration with BRIC–NCCS will further enhance talent development and innovation.
