PPG (NYSE: PPG) has announced plans to invest $380 million in the development of a new aerospace manufacturing site in Shelby, North Carolina. The facility will support the production of aerospace coatings and sealants to meet rising industry demand.

Construction on the 62-acre site is scheduled to begin in October 2025, with completion targeted for the first half of 2027. The 198,000-square-foot facility will house manufacturing and warehousing operations and is expected to create more than 110 jobs in the region. The new plant will enhance PPG’s production capacity and support its ability to meet customer requirements efficiently, leveraging improved logistics and transportation networks in the area.

“This investment reflects the continued growth of the aerospace sector and PPG’s role in supporting that expansion,” said Tim Knavish, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PPG. “The facility will be built with modern and digital manufacturing technologies that align with our long-term operational and sustainability goals.”

Sam Millikin, Vice President of Global Aerospace at PPG, noted: “Establishing this facility in Shelby strengthens our manufacturing footprint and enables us to respond more effectively to market requirements. We value the support from state and local stakeholders in bringing this project forward.”

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein welcomed the development, citing the state’s manufacturing workforce as a key factor in attracting investment: “North Carolina continues to be a leader in manufacturing in the Southeast. Our skilled labor force plays a central role in that success.”The Shelby facility will incorporate environmentally responsible production systems, with a focus on minimizing emissions and waste while maintaining product performance and safety standards.
