POWERGRID Wins Bhadla-III Power Transmission Ltd Contract

The state-owned Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID) announced its successful bid for a significant transmission project in Rajasthan. The project was secured through a tariff-based competitive bidding process. According to the company’s statement, POWERGRID received a Letter of Intent (LoI) on August 12, 2024, for acquiring the Project Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named Bhadla-III Power Transmission Ltd.

This acquisition pertains to the development of a transmission system designed to support the “Additional Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Bhadla-III Power Station” as part of the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-III Scheme, which encompasses 20 GW of power capacity.

POWERGRID emerged victorious in the bidding process after competing against various private sector contenders, demonstrating its competitive edge in the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) arena. The Bhadla-III Power Transmission initiative will focus on enhancing the existing transformation capacity at the Bhadla-III substation in Rajasthan.

This project is designed to significantly upgrade the infrastructure required for the effective evacuation and transmission of electricity generated by the Bhadla-III Power Station. By enhancing the existing capabilities, the initiative supports the state’s broader goals of expanding and optimizing its renewable energy capacity and overall sustainability objectives.
