Pondy Oxides and Chemicals Ltd., a leader in the recycling industry, is set to complete the first phase of its new lead smelter facility near Chennai by March 2025. Located in Thervoykandigai, this plant will be the first of its kind in India. The fully automated facility is designed to handle 72,000 tonnes of lead per year, with the initial phase expanding production by 36,000 tonnes annually. Construction is nearing completion, and trial production is expected to start in the first week of March 2025.

Upon completion of Phase 1, Pondy Oxides will boost its total lead production capacity from 132,000 tonnes per year to 204,000 tonnes per year. The company has already invested ₹70 crore in capital expenditure during the first nine months of the current fiscal year. It has also raised ₹175 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP), which will support working capital needs and fund further capacity expansion.

For the period ending December 31, 2024, Pondy Oxides reported a net revenue of ₹1,511.6 crore, a 29% increase compared to ₹1,168.1 crore in the same period last year. Profit after tax (PAT) reached ₹47.1 crore, up from ₹27.2 crore the previous year. Managing Director Ashish Bansal highlighted, “The significant growth in revenue, EBITDA, and PAT was driven by increased production and sales of lead, plastics, and copper.”
