Bengaluru-based POM Systems & Services has rolled out a new range of hybrid inverters designed specifically for residential solar use. Available in 3 kW, 5 kW, and 10 kW capacities, these units combine solar power conversion and battery management in a single compact system.
The POM hybrid inverter serves a dual function — it converts direct current (DC) from solar panels into alternating current (AC) for home appliances, and also controls energy flow between the solar panels, lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) battery storage, and the electric grid. The system is built to make full use of available solar energy. When there’s extra solar generation, it charges the battery and can send additional power to the grid. In times of low sunlight, it allows for charging the battery from the grid, ensuring consistent power availability.
Each inverter is equipped with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology, which adjusts input voltage for optimal battery charging. This helps maintain high energy efficiency under varying weather and lighting conditions.
The 5 kW and 10 kW versions offer support for parallel connection of up to eight units, increasing their potential to handle higher electrical loads in larger homes or systems with higher power demands. In terms of performance, the 3 kW unit reaches a peak conversion efficiency of 94%, while the 5 kW and 10 kW models can deliver up to 98% efficiency. All models accept a maximum PV input voltage of 500 V DC. MPPT operating ranges vary slightly: 120 V to 500 V DC for the 3 kW and 5 kW models, and 90 V to 500 V DC for the 10 kW version.
Safety and flexibility are built into the design. Key features include automatic restart for lithium battery systems, customizable PV and grid charging voltages, reverse polarity protection via fuse switch, and the ability to operate without a battery if needed. In terms of physical dimensions, the 3 kW and 5 kW inverters measure 490 mm × 312 mm × 125 mm, while the larger 10 kW model comes in at 571 mm × 571 mm × 148 mm.
