Polyplex Corporation Limited has announced plans to set up a new manufacturing plant in India for BOPET (Biaxially Oriented Polyethylene Terephthalate) films, enhancing its production capacity by 52,400 metric tonnes annually. The decision was approved at the company’s board meeting on January 9, 2025. BOPET films, known for their strength, clarity, and barrier properties, are widely used in applications like food packaging, electrical insulation, and industrial laminates.

The project will involve an investment of ₹558 crore (approximately $65 million), excluding additional working capital requirements. The funding will come from a combination of debt and internal resources. The new plant is expected to be operational in the first half of FY2027-28.

Polyplex currently operates at full capacity, producing 90,000 metric tonnes per year of BOPET and BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) films. This expansion is intended to meet growing market demand and further strengthen the company’s position in the specialty films industry.
