PMI Electro Mobility, a leading manufacturer of electric commercial vehicles, announced an agreement to supply 250 air-conditioned single-decker electric buses to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST). The delivery of these 12-meter electric buses will be executed in phases, with completion expected by the second quarter of FY26.
Once operational, the buses will serve various routes across Mumbai and its suburbs under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, aiming to improve urban connectivity and significantly reduce carbon emissions. Under the GCC arrangement, private operators manage daily bus operations while public authorities oversee fare collection, service planning, and overall management. This model allows for efficient service delivery with reduced environmental impact.
Mumbai will join Nagpur as the second city in Maharashtra to adopt PMI’s electric buses, with 144 buses already in service in Nagpur. This expansion reflects PMI’s commitment to advancing India’s electric mobility goals and contributing to the nation’s ambition of achieving net zero emissions by 2070, said Aanchal Jain, CEO of PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt Ltd.
