PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate Stage-I (2×800 MW) of NTPC’s Lara Super Thermal Power Station and also lay the foundation stone for Stage-II (2×800 MW) of NTPC’s Lara Super Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh.

This inaugural event will be conducted via a video conference. The cost of Stage-I, which has already been constructed, is estimated to be approximately Rs 15,800 crore. On the other hand, Stage-II, which is slated to be built on the available land of Stage-I without requiring additional land, will involve an investment of Rs 15,530 crore.

Situated within the Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, this power facility is poised to receive a consistent and economically viable coal supply sourced from NTPC’s Talaipalli Coal Block via the efficient Merry-Go-Round (MGR) system, thus guaranteeing a stable and cost-efficient energy provision nationwide.

The implementation of Stage I, incorporating cutting-edge Super Critical technology, and Stage II, featuring advanced Ultra Super Critical technology, is anticipated to significantly reduce both specific coal consumption rates and carbon dioxide emissions, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency goals.

Chhattisgarh stands poised to harness a significant portion, specifically half, of the power generated from the dual phases of Stages I and II, thereby extending its benefits to neighboring states such as Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, as well as the union territories of Goa, Daman & Diu, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli.

This project’s implementation is catalyzing a plethora of employment opportunities within the region, both directly and indirectly. NTPC, deeply entrenched in various community development endeavors in the vicinity, is actively engaged in initiatives spanning education, the provision of clean drinking water, sanitation improvements, healthcare enhancements, and programs aimed at fostering women’s empowerment.
