PLUSS Advanced Technologies, a leader in Phase Change Materials (PCMs) innovation in India, has announced a strategic collaboration with Ecodome Logistics, a cutting-edge cold-chain provider, to introduce validated, IoT-enabled Reusable PCM boxes for the safe transport of temperature-sensitive medicines and biologicals across the country. This partnership offers three major benefits: reducing vaccine and biologic waste by up to 25%, cutting carbon emissions from single-use Styrofoam by up to 80%, and ensuring complete shipment visibility that adheres to strict regulatory requirements.
Currently, cold-chain inefficiencies contribute to a 20–25% vaccine spoilage rate in India, mainly because conventional ice and Styrofoam containers fail to maintain temperatures above the critical 2°C threshold. The environmental toll of discarded Styrofoam is also significant, as even minimal recycling generates substantial CO₂ emissions. In contrast, PLUSS’s reusable PCM boxes maintain a stable temperature range of 2°C–8°C, can be reused multiple times per month, and produce less than 10% of the emissions over their lifecycle.
As part of the agreement, PLUSS will supply certified PCM-based thermal boxes, which will serve as the core component of Ecodome’s rental fleet. Integrated sensors will track real-time temperature and location, providing manufacturers and regulators with immediate alerts in case of temperature deviations. The pay-per-use model allows businesses to scale up their cold-chain capabilities without the upfront investment typically required for passive container fleets, making it an affordable and sustainable solution for both large and small pharmaceutical companies.
Samit Jain, Managing Director of PLUSS Advanced Technologies, stated, “Innovation must address real-world challenges. By combining our PCM technology with Ecodome’s advanced logistics platform, we’re solving two major problems in pharmaceutical distribution—temperature control and environmental impact—simultaneously.”
Nihar Parida, Co-Founder of Ecodome Logistics, added, “PLUSS’s expertise in materials perfectly complements our vision for India’s most reliable and green cold-chain network. Together, we are setting new standards for sustainability, compliance, and performance in the industry.”
The rollout will begin in key pharmaceutical hubs, including Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, and the National Capital Region, with plans to expand into secondary manufacturing locations. Both companies are confident that this collaboration will speed up the adoption of PCM technology, enhance vaccine security, and support India’s healthcare logistics goals for sustainability and climate commitments.
