Plugzmart, a start-up nurtured at IIT Madras, has secured certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for its high-capacity electric vehicle fast charger, designed specifically for heavy-duty EVs. Unlike many other EV chargers in the market that rely on imported technology, Plugzmart’s 240kW DC fast charger stands out for being entirely developed in-house. From hardware to software—including the controller and PLC modules—every component was built domestically, aligning with the country’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The fast charger is capable of powering up high-end electric cars and heavy commercial vehicles in about 20 minutes, according to the company. It’s engineered for use in commercial fleets, long-haul routes, and premium EV segments, offering high efficiency and strong performance while meeting both Indian and global safety regulations. The system also incorporates a smart power management feature that optimizes energy flow and helps prevent strain on the power grid—especially critical as fast-charging infrastructure expands.

“India’s EV infrastructure is rapidly progressing, with a clear push toward fast, smart, and locally developed charging technologies,” said Vivek Samynathan, Founder and CEO of Plugzmart. “Our locally built controller and PLC systems are a step toward reducing the industry’s reliance on imports, while helping lower the overall cost of EV adoption.”

Plugzmart’s achievement marks another milestone in India’s journey toward building a self-reliant electric mobility ecosystem, particularly as demand grows for scalable, high-power charging options. Plugzmart is a technology-driven start-up incubated at IIT Madras, focused on developing smart and efficient electric vehicle charging solutions tailored for India’s evolving mobility landscape.

The company specializes in indigenous design and manufacturing of EV chargers, including high-power DC fast chargers for both commercial and private electric vehicles. What sets Plugzmart apart is its commitment to building core components—such as controller and PLC modules—completely in-house, reducing dependency on imported parts and contributing to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. With a focus on innovation, energy optimization, and safety, Plugzmart is actively shaping the future of EV infrastructure by delivering reliable, scalable, and locally developed charging technologies.
