Pioneer India, a subsidiary of Japan’s Pioneer Corporation, has officially opened its state-of-the-art Research & Development (R&D) Center in Bengaluru. This expansion strengthens the company’s commitment to innovation in India, building on its earlier announcement in 2023 about setting up operations in the city.

The new facility will focus on developing a wide range of automotive and mobility technologies, including vision and sensing systems like dash cameras, digital mirrors, and 360-degree cameras, along with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Additionally, the center will work on digital cockpit innovations, human-machine interfaces, cloud-connected infotainment solutions, AI-powered mobility data platforms, and connectivity features for two-wheelers, such as navigation, safety alerts, and emergency functions.

Pioneer’s Bengaluru R&D hub will serve various sectors, including OEMs, aftermarket products, fleet operators, and insurance companies. It will also develop products tailored to the Indian market, aiming to accelerate the product development cycle for local automotive manufacturers.

Shiro Yahara, President and CEO of Pioneer Corporation, emphasized that India’s skilled workforce and rapidly evolving mobility landscape make it a prime location for fostering innovation. Siva Subramanian, CEO of Pioneer Mobility AI & Connectivity Company, added that the center will help develop products for both the Indian and global markets.

The facility is equipped with specialized labs for camera testing, embedded systems, software validation, and electronics, as well as collaborative spaces to promote cross-functional development. Pioneer India is also set to expand its engineering team, with plans to recruit talent in areas such as embedded software, computer vision, AI, and cloud connectivity.

Since its establishment in 2008, Pioneer India has been known for its automotive entertainment and mobility solutions, including stereos, speakers, subwoofers, and dash cameras. Along with its R&D centers in Gurugram and Bengaluru, the company aims to start local production of in-car products by 2026, with the goal of building a complete manufacturing value chain in India.
