Perkins has launched a new range of overhaul kits for its six-cylinder 2000 Series engines, offering cost-effective solutions to restore engines to like-new performance while reducing downtime and promoting sustainability. These kits are designed to help equipment owners extend the life cycles of their investments, minimize operational interruptions, and support environmental initiatives.
Available through Perkins distributors globally, the kits include genuine parts tailored to different levels of service based on engine hours and condition. With a single part number for easier ordering, the overhaul kits provide the reliability and performance of original Perkins parts, backed by a 12-month warranty. These kits also contribute to sustainability by reducing waste, conserving raw materials, and minimizing energy consumption compared to producing new components.
The new overhaul kits from Perkins address various engine maintenance needs, with each kit designed for specific levels of wear and operational hours. The Copper Kit is ideal for top-end overhauls and is typically required after around 8,000 hours of use. It targets common issues such as oil leakage and valve performance, offering key components like cylinder head gaskets, fuel filters, and thermostats to ensure smooth engine operation.
For engines with 12,000-15,000 hours of operation, the Bronze Kit provides a more comprehensive solution. This kit is designed to refresh both the top and bottom-end components, addressing wear in seals and gaskets. It restores engine performance, making it suitable for engines under heavy workloads, ensuring reliability for continued use.
The Silver Kit offers a more in-depth engine renewal for engines with similar usage hours (12,000-15,000 hours). In addition to the components included in the Bronze Kit, the Silver Kit adds pistons and cylinder liners. This makes it an ideal choice for engines that have experienced significant wear or reduced performance, helping to extend their lifespan and improve their efficiency.
The Platinum Kit is the most comprehensive overhaul solution, designed for major engine overhauls within 12,000-15,000 hours of use. It includes all the components from the Silver Kit, along with critical parts such as the oil pump, fuel injectors, and other essential components. This kit ensures the engine is prepared for long-term, high-performance operation, delivering enhanced reliability and operational efficiency.
“These overhaul kits offer our customers the flexibility to choose the right set of components to revitalize their engines,” said Richard Hemmings, Perkins’ aftermarket general manager. “They ensure maximum return on investment by restoring engines to optimal performance while contributing to sustainability.”
The new overhaul kits are suitable for Perkins 2000 Series engines with power outputs ranging from 358 to 470 kW (480-630 horsepower) and are commonly used in generator sets, excavators, and large industrial pumps. Choosing the correct kit requires an understanding of the engine’s operational hours and condition, and Perkins recommends consulting the Operational Maintenance Manual or a qualified technician for proper selection. Additionally, Perkins offers basic overhaul kits for its heritage engines, including the 400, 1100, and 4000 Series.
