Boeing and Pegasus Airlines have announced that Turkey’s leading low-cost carrier will modernize and expand its single-aisle fleet with an order for up to 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The deal includes a firm order for 100 737-10 jets, with the option to purchase an additional 100.
The 737-10 is the largest variant in the 737 MAX family, capable of carrying up to 230 passengers over distances of up to 5,740 km (3,100 nautical miles). It offers a 20% improvement in fuel efficiency and reduced emissions compared to previous models. The aircraft’s design and efficiency make it ideal for Pegasus Airlines, allowing the carrier to offer more flights on a greater number of routes with lower operational costs.
“We’ve had Boeing aircraft in our fleet since we started in 1990, and we’re excited to now add the 737-10 to our operations,” said Güliz Öztürk, CEO of Pegasus Airlines. “This investment supports our expansion plans, both in Turkey and internationally, and helps us grow our network with new routes.” Öztürk further noted that the purchase includes firm orders for 100 aircraft, with plans to potentially convert the remaining 100 options to firm orders depending on market demand and fleet needs.
Since its launch nearly 35 years ago, Pegasus Airlines has relied on Boeing aircraft, including the Boeing 737 Classic, which marked the start of its operations. The new 737-10 will integrate smoothly with the airline’s current Next-Generation 737 fleet, providing operational consistency as demand for air travel continues to grow.
Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commented, “We are proud to continue our long-standing partnership with Pegasus Airlines. The 737-10 will deliver on its promise of increased efficiency, versatility, and reliability for Pegasus as they expand their reach.”
The 737-10 will help Pegasus Airlines grow its presence in Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa. As low-cost carriers continue to drive regional growth, Boeing’s market outlook predicts that European and Central Asian airlines will receive nearly 7,900 single-aisle aircraft over the next two decades.
Öztürk also highlighted that the order aligns with Boeing’s National Aerospace Initiative, launched with the Turkish government in 2017, which will open up new opportunities for local manufacturers and contribute to the Turkish aviation industry. With this purchase, the total number of 737 MAX variants ordered by Pegasus Airlines surpasses 1,200.
Founded in 1990, Pegasus Airlines has grown into one of the region’s leading low-cost carriers. Known for its commitment to affordable air travel, the airline serves 144 destinations across 53 countries, including 35 within Turkey. In 2018, Pegasus adopted the motto “Your Digital Airline” and continues to innovate in the digital space to improve customer experience while pursuing sustainability goals.
