Pakka Limited, formerly known as Yash Pakka Limited, a manufacturer of compostable packaging solutions, has collaborated with the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Trust to lead Uttar Pradesh Government‘s Green Revolution initiative for a sustainable and eco-friendly Ayodhya. The partnership, ahead of the highly anticipated inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, aims to contribute with sustainability and eco-friendly practices during and after this event.

Pakka Limited, formerly known as Yash Papers Limited, is working towards establishing a transformation in the Indian food packaging industry through its vision to sustainability and innovation. Established in 1981, the company has evolved into one of the global leaders in compostable packaging solutions, aiming to ensure a cleaner planet for future generations. Pakka focuses on providing compostable and regenerative alternatives to non-compostable multilayer flexible packaging, single-use plastics, and Styrofoam, which can take centuries to degrade.

At the heart of Pakka’s sustainability vision is its main production facility, equipped with an 8.5 MW plant generating electricity entirely from biomass-based energy. The facility prioritizes locally sourced raw materials and fuel, and an impressive 95% recovery of cooking chemicals used in manufacturing. This dedication to eco-friendly practices extends to a robust emphasis on innovation and research and development. Pakka is actively engaged in pioneering products and processes across various domains, including fiber, pulp, paper, biopolymers, molded products, waste lines, and more.

Pakka’s manufacturing facility, based in Ayodhya, goes beyond industry standards by directly contributing to the generation of its electricity and supporting the local economy. The company’s workforce, exceeding 450 employees globally, primarily resides in nearby towns and villages, fostering a strong connection with the local community. Pakka Limited specializes in manufacturing compostable packaging solutions utilizing locally sourced sugarcane waste, also known as bagasse. With a mission to revolutionize food packaging sustainably, Pakka is setting new standards for environmental responsibility and proving that innovation can go hand in hand with a mission to leave a positive impact on the planet.

The Ram Mandir Trust has selected CHUK, a brand under Pakka Ltd offering compostable tableware, to be the official tableware present within the premises of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, for the inauguration event. This collaboration serves a dual purpose: fostering sustainability around the inauguration event and supporting the Uttar Pradesh Government’s drive to transform Ayodhya into a plastic-free zone. As part of the collaboration, CHUK plans to provide up to 10 lakh pieces of compostable tableware for distribution before and after the Ayodhya Mandir inauguration event. This substantial contribution aims to ensure that the event and its associated activities uphold a strong commitment to eco-friendly practices.

The joint initiative is set to reduce waste and create a positive environmental impact, aligning with the state government’s goal for Ayodhya. By opting for CHUK’s compostable tableware, the Ayodhya Mandir Trust aims to set a precedent for eco-friendly practices, urging others to adopt sustainable alternatives. This move reflects a contribution to environmental responsibility, echoing the broader mission of Pakka Ltd to contribute to a cleaner earth.

Jagdeep Hira, India Business Head of Pakka, expressed enthusiasm about contributing to a sustainable legacy in Ayodhya. He stated, “As Ayodhya prepares to welcome millions of devotees for the inauguration of the Ram Mandir, Pakka looks forward to playing its part in fostering a sustainable legacy. Through this collaboration with the Ram Mandir Trust, we will be offering compostable tableware to the temple, aligning with the values of this sacred occasion. By emphasizing environmental responsibility, reverence for nature, and the preservation of our sacred surroundings, we aim to contribute to a greener Ayodhya.”

The Uttar Pradesh Government has launched the Single Use Plastic Free Ayodhya Campaign – RACE, a grassroots movement committed to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable community. This initiative, involving a group of individuals dedicated to reducing the impact of plastic pollution on the city, resonates with businesses participating in the massive public awareness campaign workshop. The effective implementation of restrictions on plastic collection, recycling, and related issues underscores the city’s commitment to a plastic-free future.
