Anand Mahindra and Venu Srinivasan are both known for their eminent contribution to trade and industry domain. President Ramnath Kovind conferred them with Padma Bhushan 2020 award on November 8 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The Padma awards are one of the highest civilian honours announced on the eve of Republic Day. Covid pandemic had delayed presenting the awards.
Padma Bhushan awardee Anand Gopal Mahindra is the Chairman of the USD 21.9 billion Mahindra Group. With its influence in utility vehicles as well as tractors, Mahindra Group is regarded as one the most reputed Indian industrial houses. Under the leadership of Anand Mahindra, the company has expanded into aerospace, agribusiness, construction equipment, defence, farm equipment, information technology, finance and insurance.
The conglomerate has divrsified operations in over a 100 countries, an official statement said. As of January 2020, Anand Mahindra’s net worth is estimated to be USD 1.6 billion. He is an alumnus of Harvard University and Harvard Business School. His name is included by Fortune Magazine among the ‘World’s 50 Greatest Leaders’. Anand Mahindra is also known for his philanthropic work.

In his tweet President Ramnath Kovind stated that during the tenure of Anand Mahindra, Maindra Group expanded domestically and internationally into a range of major industrial sectors from automobile to IT & Aerospace.
Padma Bhushan awardee Venu Srinivasan is the chairman of TVS Group which includes Sundaram-Clayton Group and its subsidiary TVS Motor Company. TVS Motor Company is the India’s largest multinational automotive company with a revenue of USD 3 billion (as of 2020). TVS exports to over 60 countries which makes it the second largest two-wheeler exporter in India. Sundaram-Clayton Limited (SCL) is a major supplier of aluminium and magnesium die-castings of the automotive industry.
The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India. It is awarded for “distinguished service of high order” without any discrimination of race, occupation, position or sex. Shuttler PV Sindhu is the only Indian player to receive the award this year.
