Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation, has announced plans to expand its manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. This expansion aims to increase production capacity to meet the rising demand for elevators and escalators in India’s residential, commercial, and infrastructure sectors, as well as to broaden its reach across more cities in the country.

During the ground-breaking ceremony, Judy Marks, Chair, CEO, and President of Otis, emphasized the company’s longstanding commitment to India, dating back to 1892. She noted that this investment would enhance Otis’s ability to serve both domestic and export markets with innovative mobility solutions that cater to the rapid urbanization taking place in India.

The Bengaluru facility, established in 1996, holds an Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Gold certification. The facility’s Lead Design Centre has already launched over 25 products for both the Indian and export markets. The last major expansion in 2012 doubled the plant’s capacity, and this new expansion will increase overall capacity by an additional 20 percent.

Sebi Joseph, President of Otis India, highlighted that the expansion will enable the facility to double its current escalator production capacity, supporting India’s growing mobility infrastructure needs. He also mentioned the facility’s role in supplying 112 Gen2® elevators for the second phase of the Bengaluru Metro project and 255 units for the Bhopal and Indore metro projects. Additionally, the company plans to further integrate digitalization into the factory’s operations, improving productivity in areas such as transportation, logistics, and manufacturing.

Otis, a global leader in the manufacture, installation, and servicing of elevators and escalators, moves 2.3 billion people daily and maintains approximately 2.3 million customer units worldwide. With a presence in over 200 countries and territories, the company is headquartered in Connecticut, USA, and employs 71,000 people globally, including 42,000 field professionals, all dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of customers and passengers.
