Indian solar panel manufacturer Oriana Power is set to establish a state-of-the-art electrolyser gigafactory in India, utilizing advanced pressurised alkaline technology sourced from the US-based start-up Splitwaters.

Slated to begin operations by 2026, the new facility will initially boast a production capacity of 500 megawatts, with plans to scale up to 1 gigawatt by 2027. This cutting-edge plant will specialize in the manufacture of sophisticated alkaline electrolysers and essential balance-of-plant equipment.

The introduction of this technology is expected to reduce the upfront costs of green hydrogen projects by as much as 30%, making green hydrogen production more affordable and accessible. The factory will offer comprehensive turnkey solutions, providing project developers with pre-assembled modules that include all the necessary equipment for efficient green hydrogen production.

Deepak Bawa, CEO of Splitwaters, announced the launch of the initial phase of this project on LinkedIn, highlighting the modular approach of the facility. This design will streamline the green hydrogen production process, enhancing both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

The establishment of this gigafactory aligns with Oriana Power’s strategic objectives to strengthen its role in the renewable energy sector and make a significant contribution to India’s green hydrogen goals.
