Organic Recycling Systems Ltd (ORSL), a leading innovator in clean technology and sustainable waste management, is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the esteemed Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI), Pune. This collaboration marks a significant advancement in research, development, and training efforts focused on sustainable waste management, biofuels, and renewable energy.
The partnership leverages ORSL’s expertise in waste valorisation and bioenergy solutions alongside VSI’s unique research capabilities in the sugar industry, positioning both institutions to jointly address critical challenges in sustainable development through multidisciplinary initiatives. The partnership emphasizes collaborative research and innovation aimed at transforming agro-biomass, sugar industry waste, and sugarcane trash into valuable bioproducts and clean energy.
Both organizations will work together to secure funding through various government schemes such as DBT, DST, MNRE, and MoEFCC. In addition to research, the collaboration includes validation and consulting activities focused on emerging bioenergy technologies, ensuring the practical application and advancement of sustainable solutions.
Academic exchange and capacity building form a core component of this partnership. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) allows personnel from ORSL to pursue part-time doctoral studies at VSI, while VSI students will gain hands-on industry experience through internships and dissertation projects at ORSL. This two-way academic cooperation enhances learning opportunities and bridges the gap between research and practical industry needs.
Faculty involvement is another important aspect, with ORSL experts providing specialized teaching in areas such as environmental biotechnology, waste management, and biofuels. This exchange of expertise will enrich the academic environment and support the development of cutting-edge knowledge and skills among students and staff at both institutions.
Moreover, the partnership plans to organize joint workshops, seminars, and training courses to foster continuous skill enhancement. These activities aim to build capacity across both organizations, ensuring that students and staff are well-equipped to contribute to advancements in bioenergy and sustainable waste management technologies.
Sarang Bhand, Managing Director of ORSL, commented on the partnership “This collaboration with Vasantdada Sugar Institute represents a milestone for ORSL. VSI’s renowned expertise in sugar industry research complements our innovative waste management solutions. Together, we aim to accelerate advancements in carbon capture, pollution mitigation, and sustainable resource development from agro-industrial residues, thereby contributing to India’s green economy and environmental goals.”
Founded in 2008, ORSL specializes in the development and deployment of sustainable waste management and bioenergy technologies. The company operates India’s first municipal solid waste processing facility based on patented anaerobic biomethanation technology, including a flagship project in Solapur, Maharashtra that converts biodegradable waste into Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) and organic manure. With a total processing capacity of 400 tonnes per day, ORSL continues to expand its operations and collaborate with prestigious academic institutions such as IIT Bombay, AGH University (Poland), and the University of Birmingham.
