OPEX Corporation has entered into a strategic technology collaboration with Peltier to introduce a new multi-temperature, multi-deep cold storage solution designed specifically for automated fulfillment environments. The joint offering expands temperature-handling capabilities within OPEX’s Perfect Pick® and Infinity® automated storage and retrieval systems, enabling customers to manage chilled and frozen inventory directly within standard warehouse settings.

The solution combines OPEX’s high-density automation platforms with Peltier’s actively cooled, AI-enabled storage totes, allowing grocery, pharmaceutical, and life sciences operators to store and retrieve temperature-sensitive products without constructing dedicated freezer rooms or installing complex refrigeration infrastructure. By integrating cold storage directly into ambient warehouse operations, the system simplifies fulfillment workflows while significantly reducing capital and operating costs.

According to OPEX, many customers have sought flexible multi-temperature storage options but have been constrained by the cost and rigidity of traditional cold storage solutions. The integration of Peltier’s tote technology allows these capabilities to be added without altering the core architecture of existing automation systems, delivering scalability and operational efficiency within the same footprint.

At the center of the solution is the Peltier Tote™, which features independently controlled temperature settings and built-in IoT connectivity. Each tote continuously monitors and manages internal conditions through API-enabled system integration. Power is supplied while totes are stored in multi-deep configurations, and temperature stability is maintained during movement by OPEX’s iBOT® robotic vehicles, ensuring uninterrupted cold chain performance throughout storage and transport.

This approach allows refrigerated and frozen products to be handled alongside ambient inventory, improving space utilization and enabling more efficient order fulfillment. It also enhances workplace safety and comfort by removing the need for employees to work in low-temperature freezer environments.

The system’s physical AI capabilities support dynamic energy optimization and generate detailed audit trails for temperature-sensitive goods, including products subject to strict regulatory oversight such as FDA compliance. Unlike conventional cold rooms—where a single system failure can compromise large volumes of inventory—the tote-based model localizes risk. Any temperature deviation is isolated to an individual tote, minimizing product loss and operational disruption.

Environmental considerations also play a central role in the design. Peltier Totes rely on patented solid-state cooling technology rather than compressor-based systems that use conventional refrigerants, reducing environmental impact while improving energy efficiency.

Peltier leadership noted that the collaboration represents a shift in how cold storage is applied within modern commerce. By removing temperature as a structural limitation, organizations can design fulfillment operations around efficiency, speed, and space optimization rather than refrigeration constraints.
