OMRON Automation showcased its cutting-edge expertise in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Through-hole Inspection at Productronica India 2024, featuring a range of innovative solutions, including Automated X-ray Inspection (AXI), Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), and Solder Paste Inspection (SPI).

A highlight of the event was the introduction of OMRON’s latest technology, the 3DCT AXI X850. This advanced solution provides thorough inspection of power semiconductors by utilizing sophisticated X-ray technology to detect defects such as voids, insufficient solder, and misalignments. The result is improved product consistency and reliability.

Speaking about the significance of the new solution, Sameer Gandhi, Managing Director of OMRON Automation India, explained, “As the world moves rapidly toward electric vehicles (EVs), semiconductors are key in driving this transition. These chips power essential systems within EVs, such as battery management and adaptive cruise control, enhancing efficiency and safety. The demand for faster charging, miniaturization, and higher horsepower has led to the development of multi-layer semiconductor products, requiring precise inspection to ensure quality and reliability in various applications.”

OMRON also demonstrated its AOI systems, known for their precise inspection of surface-mounted components, and SPI technology, which ensures high-precision solder paste inspections, optimizing the quality of solder joints in electronic assemblies.

These advanced inspection systems serve critical roles in industries like automotive and networking equipment, where rigorous quality control is essential for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of complex technologies.

The growing demand for Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric (CASE) vehicles, alongside the rollout of 5G technology, has heightened the need for highly accurate inspection processes. Autonomous vehicles rely on precise calibration and inspection of sensors and cameras for safety, while the production of electric vehicles and 5G infrastructure requires specialized inspections to meet stringent standards for performance and reliability.

“As a leading provider of automation solutions, OMRON is committed to empowering manufacturers with the tools they need to achieve operational excellence. By presenting our full range of inspection technologies, we reaffirm our dedication to setting new standards in semiconductor, automotive, and networking equipment manufacturing, supporting the growth of digital goods production in India,” added Sameer.
