OMRON Corporation (TSE:6645) and Cognizant (NASDAQ:CTSH) have entered into a strategic alliance aimed at bringing together Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) to support innovation and efficiency in the manufacturing sector. As part of the agreement, Cognizant has been selected as the engineering partner for OMRON’s Industrial Automation Business (IAB).

The collaboration brings together OMRON’s extensive range of automation products—including sensors, controllers, servo drives, safety devices, and robotics—with Cognizant’s capabilities in areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and digital modeling. This integrated approach will provide manufacturers with a comprehensive offering that spans consulting, deployment, operational support, and maintenance. The joint initiative is aimed at industries including automotive, semiconductors, electronics, industrial machinery, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods.

By aligning their technologies and services, OMRON and Cognizant aim to build a new business model that addresses challenges at both the factory floor and management level. Continuous analysis of data from both IT and OT systems will help drive improvements, leading to higher efficiency, smarter decision-making, and lower environmental impact.

OMRON’s vast product catalog—comprising over 200,000 items—serves as a rich source of real-time data, which feeds into Cognizant’s Asset Performance Excellence (APEx) system and OnePlant™, a tool for evaluating Industry 4.0/5.0 readiness. This data-driven insight allows for targeted improvements and strategic planning, which can then be implemented through OMRON’s control systems and its i-BELT data service.

“OMRON is the only manufacturer of control equipment that owns all the hardware used in its own production lines,” said Junta Tsujinaga, CEO of OMRON Corporation. “Cognizant brings deep digital expertise that spans multiple sectors. Together, we will help manufacturers overcome pressing challenges—boosting productivity, cutting losses, and enabling faster management decisions. This partnership supports our vision of advancing next-generation manufacturing that is efficient and environmentally conscious.”

“Clients are increasingly seeking partners with a full spectrum of expertise—from industry know-how to digital capability,” said Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant. “By combining our strengths with OMRON, we are offering a powerful solution for manufacturers worldwide. With real-time data as the foundation, we’ll help businesses operate more intelligently, make faster decisions, and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape.”

OMRON, founded in 1933, is a global leader in automation with approximately 28,000 employees and operations in over 130 countries. Its core technology, “Sensing & Control + Think,” powers its business units across factory automation, healthcare, social systems, and electronic components. The company continues to invest in data-driven solutions to help build a more sustainable society.

Cognizant (Nasdaq-100: CTSH) is a global technology company helping clients modernize operations, improve processes, and enhance user experiences across industries. Together with OMRON, the goal is to shape the future of smart, connected, and resilient manufacturing.
