Olectra Greentech Ltd has secured a new order from Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) to supply and maintain 297 electric buses, valued at approximately ₹424 crore. The contract includes full vehicle maintenance, with delivery expected within 11 months of the award.
This development is a key addition to Olectra’s growing portfolio of zero-emission public transport solutions across India. The order will be executed on an outright sale basis, and the company will handle end-to-end maintenance, offering a comprehensive mobility package to HRTC.
With Himachal Pradesh being an ecologically sensitive state, the introduction of electric buses is expected to reduce diesel dependency and cut emissions in challenging terrains. The move aligns with national efforts to modernize public transport and prioritize clean energy alternatives.
The order strengthens Olectra’s position in India’s rapidly expanding electric mobility space, particularly in the public transport segment. The shift to electric buses plays a crucial role in the country’s broader climate goals, with government-led initiatives such as the FAME II scheme and PLI programs backing the transition.
State transport agencies across India have been scaling up electric bus deployments in cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Central support and falling battery costs have accelerated adoption, making electric buses a viable and cost-effective alternative to diesel fleets.
As cities look to curb urban pollution and upgrade public transportation, Olectra is positioning itself as a leading supplier of electric mobility solutions. Its growing order book and maintenance services highlight its capabilities in delivering sustainable, efficient, and scalable transport systems.
