Odisha to Host India’s First Silicon Carbide Manufacturing Facility

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for India’s first silicon carbide manufacturing plant, set to be established in Bhubaneswar with an investment of Rs 620 crore. The facility, developed by RIR Power Electronics Limited, will be located at EMC Park, Infovalley.

This initiative is a significant development for India and Odisha, positioning the state at the forefront of the global power electronics market. Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Majhi highlighted the importance of the project, saying, “The establishment of RIR Power Electronics Limited’s facility is a major step towards making Odisha a semiconductor hub in India.”

Majhi emphasized that the new plant will not only produce cutting-edge technology but will also create numerous job opportunities for local talent. He stated, “This facility will attract skilled professionals, boost local innovation, and drive economic growth, strengthening Odisha’s standing as a key destination for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.”

RIR Power Electronics Limited, a leader in semiconductor power electronics, supplies products across North America, Europe, and Asia, catering to industries such as railways, defense, power, transportation, aerospace, and sustainable energy. The new facility is expected to play a pivotal role in India’s goal of becoming a self-reliant semiconductor manufacturing hub.

With a total investment of Rs 620 crore over the next three years, the project is set to create over 500 jobs, ranging from research and development to factory operations. This will provide significant employment opportunities in Odisha, while contributing to the state’s industrial landscape.

In addition to RIR’s plant, Odisha has attracted several other investment proposals in the semiconductor sector, signaling further growth in Bhubaneswar’s technology industry. RIR Power Electronics Limited is also working on a collaboration with IIT Bhubaneswar for technical and research initiatives.
