Odisha Police teamed up with IG Drones and Startup Odisha to use AI technology for traffic and crowd management during the Rath Yatra. This was the first time such advanced technology was used for this event, improving safety and traffic flow.
The AI system could detect congestion, count vehicles, and provide real-time updates, working with drones and CCTV systems. Five Jaga drones with public announcement systems were used for managing the crowds.
Handling over 10 lakh people and more than 2 lakh vehicles with AI-powered technology showed the effectiveness of drones and AI, thanks to the teamwork of IG Drones and Odisha Police. It was a proud moment for IG Drones, an Odisha-based company, to support the Rath Yatra.
Odisha Police’s thorough strategy featured extensive mentorship, a detailed mobility plan, and a dedicated team to oversee drone operations. Real-time updates were posted on social media, and a 24/7 helpline (73816-90900) was available to assist the public during the Yatra.
“We are proud to introduce this innovative use of AI-powered technology for the sacred Jagannath Rath Yatra,” said Dayal Gangwar, IPS, ADG Odisha Police.
The team felt honored to serve Lord Jagannath and contribute to the celebration in their home state. The Odisha Police successfully used AI-powered Jaga Drones for traffic management and surveillance for the first time during the Rath Yatra. Over 25,000 people received real-time traffic updates via an AI-powered WhatsApp chatbot, and drone-based PA systems managed crowds in congested areas.
