NTPC Limited, one of the leading integrated power utilities in India, has established a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), a subsidiary of Oil India Ltd engaged in the refining and distribution of petroleum products.

Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) is a public sector oil company based in Assam, India. It specializes in refining crude oil and producing a range of petroleum products. It plays a crucial role in the energy sector by ensuring a consistent and quality supply of fuels.
This collaboration is set to explore partnership opportunities in the establishment of a Bio-Refinery based on bamboo at NTPC Bongaigaon, in addition to embarking on other environmentally conscious initiatives.
Through the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) underscore their shared dedication to expanding their footprint in the domain of green chemicals, while simultaneously delving into sustainable solutions.
The primary objective of this collaborative endeavor is to make significant contributions to the nation’s ambitious Net-Zero targets, all the while actively engaging in the comprehensive development of the North-East Region.
The signing ceremony witnessed the participation of prominent figures, including Gurdeep Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC, Ranjit Rath, the Chairman and Managing Director of OIL, and Chairman of NRL, along with Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, the Managing Director of NRL.
In consonance with NTPC’s commitment to achieving 60 GW of Renewable Energy capacity by 2032, the organization is poised to emerge as one of the major players in the Green Hydrogen and Energy Storage sector.
NTPC is at the forefront of various initiatives focused on decarbonization, encompassing realms such as Green Hydrogen, Biofuels, Carbon Capture, and Hydrogen Mobility.
