In a focused effort to strengthen India’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the National Productivity Council (NPC), Regional Directorate Mumbai, under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, is organizing a five-day Consultant Training Program from 13th to 17th September 2025 in Pune. The training will be held at the Engineering Cluster, located in MIDC, Chinchwad, and is part of the government’s MSME Competitive (LEAN) Scheme (MCLS). This initiative is designed to equip professionals with the expertise required to support Indian MSMEs in adopting lean manufacturing techniques for enhanced productivity and competitiveness.
The MCLS training program is aimed at creating a nationwide pool of qualified consultants who can assist MSMEs in streamlining operations, minimizing waste, and boosting profitability. By applying lean tools and techniques, participating enterprises can significantly improve their process efficiency, reduce inventory and space wastage, cut energy consumption, and ultimately enhance both customer satisfaction and bottom-line performance. These improvements are critical for MSMEs as they seek to expand their footprint in both domestic and global markets.
Eligible candidates for the program include engineering graduates and diploma holders, as well as professionals with technical post-graduate degrees such as MBA, PGDM, MCA, or M.Sc. The program is open to individuals with 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, depending on the level of participation—intermediate or advanced. Those with less than 5 years of experience can still contribute as assistant consultants under the supervision of senior consultants. A mandatory examination will be held on the final day, and only successful participants who complete all five days of the program will be awarded certificates. These certificates will enable them to be empaneled as consultants under the MCLS initiative.
This training initiative supports the broader objectives of the Lean Scheme by promoting faster order turnaround, optimized resource utilization, waste elimination, and improved profitability for MSMEs. As Indian industries increasingly align with global benchmarks, having access to certified consultants trained in lean methodology is vital to ensuring sustainable growth and operational excellence.
