NORD DRIVESYSTEMS is committed to helping companies enhance their energy efficiency and sustainability by facilitating the use of high-efficiency electric motors. This support is made possible through a funding program initiated by the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) in Germany. Companies can now take a significant step towards reducing their energy consumption and carbon footprint with the potential to have up to 40 percent of their investment costs covered.

In Germany, the industrial sector accounts for approximately 70 percent of the total electricity consumption. To address this, the Federal Funding Scheme for Energy Efficiency in the Economy (EEW) has developed four modules to enhance efficiency. Modules 1 and 4, which focus on electric motors and drives, are particularly relevant for companies striving for greater energy efficiency. “Many of our customers are not aware that the modernization of drive components and systems is eligible for funding, which is why we are offering support in this regard,” says Jörg Niermann, Head of Marketing at NORD DRIVESYSTEMS. “Government funding presents a significant opportunity for companies to become more sustainable and cost-effective with a manageable investment.”

To be eligible for funding, certain technical requirements must be met:

  • For nominal output powers ranging from 0.12 kW to 0.75 kW, efficiency class IE4 and higher is required.
  • For nominal output powers from 0.75 kW to 1000 kW, efficiency class IE5 and higher is necessary.
  • Motors with a nominal output power exceeding 1000 kW should have a minimum efficiency of 96.8 percent.
  • For motors with nominal output power up to and including 1000 kW, which are not subject to any statutory efficiency criteria, efficiency class IE5 applies.

The amount of funding provided varies according to the size of the company. Module 1 offers Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) with up to 249 employees and a maximum turnover of €50 million the opportunity to have 40 percent of eligible costs covered, up to a maximum of €200,000. The program is open for investments starting at €2,000. For non-SMEs, 30 percent of eligible costs are covered, also up to a maximum of €200,000, with the same minimum investment.

In module 4, SMEs receive €900 per ton of CO2 saved per year, with a maximum of 40 percent of eligible costs covered. Non-SMEs receive €500 per ton of CO2 saved and up to 30 percent of eligible costs.

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS provides valuable assistance by analyzing the on-site situation and recommending eligible drive systems. Additionally, NORD connects customers with energy advisors who guide them through the application process, with the costs covered by the funding program.

By participating in this funding program, companies can not only improve their energy efficiency but also contribute to a more sustainable future, all while benefiting from substantial financial support. NORD DRIVESYSTEMS stands as a partner committed to promoting energy efficiency and innovation within the industry.
