NORD DRIVESYSTEMS is providing specialized drive solutions for various crane types and load capacities, leveraging its global presence in over 80 countries. Polish hoisting equipment manufacturer PROTEA, a long-time partner, relies on NORD’s expertise for its bridge cranes, which are used for tasks such as transporting straw bales in biogas production.
PROTEA utilizes NORD’s MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units, capable of handling torque ranges up to 282,000 Nm, for these demanding applications. The lifting gear, in particular, employs a robust MAXXDRIVE® XD unit with 18.5 kW power, built with the UNICASE housing design optimized for heavy loads.
This design allows for a U-shaped drive arrangement, simplifying the alignment of the cable drum and motor on the same side of the gear unit. Additionally, the cranes and trolleys are powered by MAXXDRIVE® units with capacities ranging from 0.55 to 11 kW.
“Our aim is to collaborate closely with our customers to identify the best drive solution for their crane applications,” said Gernot Zarp, Sales Manager at NORD. “Our extensive product range enables us to provide customized drive systems that are perfectly suited to each specific application, eliminating the need for overdimensioning.”
NORD has expanded its MAXXDRIVE® XD series, now offering gear units with center distances up to 1,281 mm. This expansion enhances the economic and customized design of lifting drives for crane applications, optimizing installation space and reducing drive weight. This flexibility allows customers to achieve greater efficiency in crane system design.
“We chose NORD components because they have proven to be a reliable partner over the years,” said Tomasz Poprawa, Project Manager at PROTEA. “Their products are of high quality and recognized worldwide.” Poprawa praised the durability of the one-piece UNICASE housings, their low maintenance requirements, and the double seals that ensure smooth, leak-free operation.
