NMDC Steel Limited (NSL), India’s youngest and most advanced steel producer with a capacity of 3.0 MTPA, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first company in the country to receive BIS certification under the Indian Standard IS 18384:2023. This certification is for manufacturing “Hot-Rolled Steel Strip, Sheet, and Plates for Welded Steel Pipe for Pipeline Transportation Systems.” The recognition was awarded during the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Foundation Day celebrations in New Delhi.
Dr Prashant Sharma, DGM (Chem) and Head of Quality at NSL, accepted the award from Shri Prahlad Joshi, Hon’ble Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy, in the presence of Smt. Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, and Shri Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General, BIS.
The certification marks a significant achievement for NMDC Steel, as IS 18384:2023 sets stringent requirements for steel products used in pipeline transportation systems for petroleum and natural gas. By meeting these standards, NMDC Steel underscores its dedication to producing high-quality, innovative, and sustainable steel solutions. Earlier this year, NMDC Steel also became the first Indian steel plant to secure four Integrated Management System (IMS) ISO certifications simultaneously, further cementing its reputation for quality and operational excellence.
