On April 30, 2025, NMDC Steel Limited (NSL), India’s newest and most advanced steel plant, marked a significant milestone by achieving record-breaking production and dispatch figures across key units. The Sinter Plant led the way, reaching a new monthly production record of 3,41,381 tonnes, a 10.8% improvement over its previous record of 3,08,146 tonnes. NSL also surpassed its highest daily and shift sinter outputs, demonstrating its commitment to operational excellence.
Other units also contributed to the strong performance. The Blast Furnace set a new high with 2,30,111 tonnes of hot metal, reflecting an 8.5% month-on-month increase. The Steel Melting Shop (SMS) recorded its best month, producing 1,92,453 tonnes of liquid steel and 1,067 heats, marking growth of 7.7% and 5.7%, respectively. SMS also achieved its highest shift output, with 20 heats and 3,586 tonnes in a single shift.
Amitava Mukherjee, CMD of NMDC and NMDC Steel Limited, commented, “These achievements go beyond numbers; they highlight the strength of a young steel plant proving its capabilities. This success is a testament to the dedication of every employee and a reflection of NSL’s contribution to India’s growth.”
The Thin Slab Caster (TSC) recorded 1,87,670 tonnes of crude steel, a 6.4% increase, while the Hot Strip Mill (HSM) produced 1,83,679 tonnes of HR Coil, a 6.3% rise from the previous month. These achievements showcase NSL’s ability to execute efficient operations across its entire value chain.
NSL also achieved record dispatch volumes. HR Sheet dispatches surged by 58%, reaching 5,424 tonnes in April 2025, compared to the previous record of 3,432 tonnes in January 2025. Liquid Nitrogen dispatches grew by 39.6%, reaching a new high of 1,008 tonnes, up from 722 tonnes in March 2025.

As NSL continues to grow, we remain committed to delivering value, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and diversifying our product offerings.”
In a further achievement, NSL also completed its first-ever commercial dispatch of 5.99 tonnes of Naphthalene on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, reinforcing its focus on by-product monetization and product diversification.
