NLC India and APDCL Join Hands for 1,000 MW Solar Power Projects in Assam

NLC India Ltd announced that its renewables subsidiary, NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL), has signed a joint venture agreement with Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) to develop 1,000 MW of solar power projects in Assam. Under the agreement, NIRL will hold a 51% stake in the joint venture, while APDCL will own the remaining 49%.

NIRL will leverage its expertise in renewable energy project development, while APDCL will facilitate land acquisition, secure regulatory clearances, and establish power evacuation infrastructure. The generated solar power will be sold entirely to Assam’s power distribution companies under long-term power purchase agreements spanning 25 years.

“This partnership will not only enhance Assam’s energy security but also promote socio-economic growth by creating green jobs and improving the state’s sustainability index,” said NIRL Chairman Prasanna Kumar Motupalli. The initiative aims to address the growing energy demands of Assam by expanding renewable energy capacity, ensuring a stable and affordable power supply, and supporting the state’s commitment to sustainable development.

Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) is the principal electricity distribution utility in Assam, responsible for managing the supply of power to residential, commercial, and industrial consumers across the state. Established to streamline electricity distribution and ensure reliable service, APDCL operates under the aegis of the Assam State Electricity Board. The company focuses on enhancing energy accessibility and affordability while undertaking initiatives to modernize the distribution network and reduce transmission losses. APDCL is also actively involved in integrating renewable energy sources to meet Assam’s growing power demands, contributing to the state’s socio-economic development and sustainability goals.
