Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), the world’s largest integrated medical technology manufacturing cluster, welcomed a high-level delegation from NITI Aayog led by Dr M Srinivas, Member (Health), to showcase its advanced ecosystem for medical device manufacturing, healthcare innovation and research. The visit provided the delegation with an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of AMTZ’s integrated model, which brings together manufacturing, research, product development, testing, startup incubation and commercialisation under one platform. The initiative supports the development of indigenous medical technologies while strengthening India’s position as a global centre for medical device manufacturing.

The delegation was received by Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO of AMTZ, along with the senior leadership team. During the visit, the officials were briefed on the wide range of activities carried out at the facility, including medical device production, diagnostic technologies, artificial intelligence-based healthcare solutions, research and development, and innovation-driven startup programmes. The visitors toured AMTZ’s manufacturing and innovation facilities to understand how ideas are transformed into market-ready healthcare products through a collaborative ecosystem that integrates technology, engineering and clinical expertise.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Sharma said AMTZ was established with the vision of creating a collaborative environment where researchers, healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs and manufacturers work together to develop innovative medical technologies. “We are honoured to welcome the NITI Aayog delegation and present the progress made by AMTZ in building an ecosystem that supports indigenous innovation. Our focus remains on helping startups, promoting advanced medical technologies and strengthening India’s capabilities in medical device manufacturing for both domestic and global markets,” he said.

During the visit, the delegation interacted with startups operating from MediValley, BioValley, the Bharat Limb Centre (BLC) and the Centre of Excellence (CoE). Entrepreneurs demonstrated their products and shared details of technologies being developed in areas such as medical devices, diagnostics and digital healthcare.

The discussions also covered key challenges faced by MedTech startups, including regulatory approvals, manufacturing support and market access. Officials were briefed on how AMTZ provides shared infrastructure, testing facilities, regulatory guidance and industry partnerships that help innovators accelerate product development and commercialisation.

The delegation also met representatives from the World Health Innovation Forum (WHIF) to discuss opportunities for international healthcare collaboration. They were further briefed on the activities of Universal BioMed Cross (UBMC), including its work in biomedical emergency response, healthcare capacity building and global health initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, Dr M Srinivas praised AMTZ for creating a world-class ecosystem that brings together government, industry and academia to promote healthcare innovation. He described AMTZ as one of the finest MedTech ecosystems in the country and said it demonstrates how a shared vision and collaborative approach can accelerate technological advancement in healthcare. He also acknowledged the leadership of Dr Jitendra Sharma in establishing a model that could be replicated across other parts of India.

The visit reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in advancing India’s medical technology sector and strengthening self-reliance in healthcare manufacturing. By bringing together innovation, research, manufacturing and entrepreneurship under one roof, AMTZ continues to play a key role in developing affordable, high-quality medical technologies that improve patient care while positioning India as a leading global destination for MedTech innovation and production.
