Nissan has revealed plans to launch a seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in India by the last quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year, followed by a five-seater compact SUV towards the end of the first quarter of 2026-27. As part of its strategy to introduce new products tailored for the Indian market, Nissan had previously outlined the arrival of the B-MPV (seven-seater), as well as two compact SUVs (available in both five and seven-seater options), in addition to the Magnite and X-TRAIL.

Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, emphasized, “Our focus will solely be on SUVs, infused with Japanese DNA and cutting-edge Nissan technologies. We are now ready to confirm the timelines: the B-MPV seven-seater will launch in the final quarter of this fiscal, while the C-SUV (five-seater) will be launched by the end of Q1 2026-27.”

Vatsa also mentioned that details for the launch of the seven-seater compact SUV would be shared in due course. These new vehicles will be produced at Nissan’s joint-venture facility in Chennai. The company is also working on an “affordable” electric vehicle for the Indian market, expected to be launched in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

To support the rollout of these new models, Nissan plans to expand its dealership and service network in India. “We currently have 282 touch points, including 159 showrooms and 123 workshops. We plan to add 35-40 more this fiscal year and another 50 in the next,” Vatsa said, adding that there are around 46-47 touch points in eastern India.

In line with its growth ambitions, Nissan India aims to triple both domestic sales and exports to 100,000 units annually by 2025-26. For the 2024-25 fiscal year, the company sold over 28,000 units domestically, driven by the launch of the new Magnite in October 2024. On the export front, Nissan expanded its operations from 20 to 65 markets and achieved a record 71,000 units in sales.

In response to the increasing competition in the SUV and MPV segments, Vatsa noted, “Our new products are distinct in design, feel, and performance. While these segments are highly competitive, we’re confident in the capabilities of our offerings, which have been carefully planned and developed.”

Nissan Motor India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co Ltd, has been operating in India since 2010. With a manufacturing plant and R&D center in Chennai, the company and its global partner Renault have invested $1.8 billion in the Indian market, generating over 70,000 jobs and skilling opportunities in the region.
