Japanese automaker Nissan is set to expand its footprint in the Indian automotive market by introducing five new models over the next 30 months. Currently offering just one model in India, Nissan will launch two mid-size SUVs (one five-seater and one seven-seater), an electric SUV, and an updated version of its compact SUV, the Magnite.

Additionally, the company will debut the latest iteration of its premium SUV, the X-Trail, imported as a completely built-up (CBU) unit. Frank Torres, President of Nissan India, revealed in a recent interview that the company aims to triple its sales volume in both domestic and export markets by the fiscal year 2026. “We plan to enhance our domestic and export volumes to 100,000 units each annually by the end of FY26,” Torres stated.

The new models are expected to feature advanced technology and offer substantial value to customers. Last year, Nissan and Renault announced major investments in six new models for the Indian market. Torres also mentioned that the company is considering additional global models for India post-FY26. He acknowledged that finalizing the strategy for India has taken time but emphasized that the current phase of transformation is crucial for sustainable growth.

Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, asserted that the company is not too late to enter the growing Indian market. He highlighted that SUVs, which are a strong segment for Nissan globally, will be a focus area for the Indian market.

Nissan plans to expand its sales network from 272 touchpoints to 300 by the end of the current fiscal year, targeting high-growth markets, including cities and smaller towns. The company also aims to increase its export operations, with the Magnite set to be shipped to 40 countries, up from 15.

This strategy reflects Nissan’s intention to use India as a global export hub, with new models also expected to meet international market demands. According to data from SIAM, the company exported 12,809 units in the April-June quarter of this fiscal year, more than double the 5,928 units exported during the same period last year.
