Nidec Global Appliance has entered a major construction phase for its upcoming manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, where the company will produce Embraco compressors for residential and commercial refrigeration applications. The project is progressing rapidly and remains on track to begin production of initial compressor samples by the final quarter of 2026.

The company stated that foundational and underground civil work at the facility has been completed, including all structural preparations and footing activities. Construction teams are currently advancing work on the perimeter infrastructure while preparing for the next key stage of development — the installation of steel structures and pre-engineered building systems scheduled to begin in the second half of May.

Once the steel assembly process starts, work will move swiftly toward the erection of columns, roofing systems and the main production infrastructure that will house one of the company’s most advanced compressor manufacturing operations globally. Approximately 100 workers are currently engaged at the project site, handling various stages of construction and infrastructure development. Nidec Global Appliance said worker safety remains a top priority throughout the project lifecycle. To support this commitment, the company has established a dedicated training and awareness centre at the site focused on accident prevention and workplace safety practices.

In parallel, a team of 24 professionals is managing engineering coordination, procurement, recruitment and contract administration from the company’s local office in the city centre. The upcoming manufacturing plant is expected to become a major industrial and employment hub for the region. Once fully operational, the facility will directly employ around 1,500 people across manufacturing, engineering and operational functions. In addition, nearly 800 indirect jobs are expected to be generated through supplier networks, logistics operations, local services and supporting businesses.

To build a skilled workforce for the project, Nidec Global Appliance has partnered with technical institutes and universities in the region. The company is working with educational institutions to introduce specialised modules and industry-oriented programs designed around the manufacturing skills required at the new facility.

According to Eduardo Almeida, General Manager of Nidec Global Appliance India, the initiative is intended not only to support factory operations but also to create long-term educational and professional development opportunities for the region’s youth. He said the project is helping prepare a new generation of skilled professionals capable of working in advanced manufacturing and high-technology industries.

The plant will manufacture four major Embraco compressor families — ES, EL, FMS and VLT — along with electronic inverter systems designed to improve compressor efficiency and energy optimisation. These products incorporate the latest refrigeration technologies developed by Embraco for global markets.

A dedicated research and development division will also operate within the facility, with Indian engineers and researchers focusing on product monitoring, manufacturing optimisation and performance improvements. Spread across more than 100,000 square metres, the highly integrated plant will house stamping, machining, motor manufacturing, electronics and final assembly operations under one roof. With an annual production capacity of 6 million compressors, the project represents an investment exceeding US$120 million.

Nidec Global Appliance believes India’s rapidly growing refrigeration market, supported by rising incomes and expanding consumer demand, offers strong long-term growth potential. The company aims to establish the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar facility as a centre of excellence for refrigeration technology while also developing it into an export hub serving regional and international markets.
