NHPC has announced a collaboration with BEML to work together on creating advanced desilting and dredging solutions for hydroelectric power plants. In addition to boosting power plant efficiency, these solutions will help address urban waterlogging during monsoon seasons by clearing canals and culverts. They will also be useful for dredging inland waterways, coastal areas, ponds, and lakes, according to a statement by NHPC.

The two organizations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership focused on designing and implementing desilting technologies. Following successful pilot projects, these innovations will be expanded to other hydropower plants across the country to further strengthen India’s renewable energy infrastructure.

NHPC Chairman and Managing Director R.K. Chaudhary highlighted the initiative’s potential to improve power generation efficiency, reduce maintenance expenses, and advance India’s renewable energy goals, while also creating environmental and community benefits.

BEML Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy emphasized that the partnership aims to combine expertise to enhance hydro plant efficiency and contribute to infrastructure development and water resource management.
