Messe Frankfurt India Trade Fairs Pvt Ltd had recently hosted the fifth edition of Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) India Summit on 4th and 5th March at Le Meridien, New Delhi that entailed discussions on the importance of natural gas, opportunities, and overall acceptance of the clean fuel and challenges faced in the development of natural gas vehicle industry in India. The Summit placed major emphasis on discussing ways and solutions for the upliftment of the Natural Gas Vehicle Industry in India.
The event witnessed the participation of 125 industry experts and was inaugurated by eminent industry personalities like Mr. AK Jana, MD, Indraprastha Gas Ltd, Mr. Amit Shah, MD, Ace Gas Conversions Pvt Ltd, Mr. SC Gupta, Joint Advisor, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, Mr. Ashish Chutani, Chairman, SIAM Gas Based Mobility Group and Head, Maruti Suzuki Ltd, Mr. Ashim Sharma, Partner & Group Head, Nomura Research Institute Consulting & Solutions India Pvt Ltd.
The session started with a powerful discussion on topics like increasing penetration of NGVs in India, natural gas mobility sector post COVID19, LNG as a transportation fuel in India, the current status of the natural gas mobility industry in India along with its challenges and opportunities along with among others.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. AK Jana, Managing Director, Indraprastha Gas Ltd, commented, “The time has arrived to adopt Natural Gas Vehicles.” “It was great to participate at NGV India Summit as it gave us an incredible opportunity to come out of our cocoons after months of home-bound state and have interesting discussions with other industry experts.
Also, a special report on the NGV sector by Nomura Research Institute (NRI) Consulting & Solutions India Pvt Ltd was unveiled by members at the inauguration. About the present dynamic of the industry, Mr. Ashim Sharma, Partner & Group Head, Nomura Research Institute (NRI) Consulting & Solutions India Pvt Ltd stated, “The penetration of NGVs in the country is quite high as it witnessed a growth of about 7% from March 2016 to March 2020. During the same period, the fuel infrastructure has also seen an upsurge at about 20% CAGR.”
About the latest developments and future trends emerging in the natural gas vehicle industry, Mr. Chiradeep Datta, Chief Operating Officer- Kerala and Karnataka, and Head, Operations & Maintenance, Atlantic Gulf & Pacific Company said “India’s energy sector and all developments in the sector will be largely dominated by energy transition to natural gas. NGVs are instrumental in moving towards a clean energy future and keeping that in view, the Government is stressing the need to embrace natural gas as an alternative to traditional fuels.”
