NGEL Partners with Andhra Pradesh for ₹1.87 Trillion Renewable Energy Initiative

NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) has entered a joint venture with the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) to invest ₹1.87 trillion in renewable energy projects across the state. The agreement, formalized in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, and other officials, is expected to create 106,000 jobs and deliver ₹20,620 crore in financial benefits to Andhra Pradesh over 25 years.

The partnership aims to establish 25 GW of solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects, alongside facilities to produce 0.5 MMTPA of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green methanol. Additionally, 10 GW of pumped hydro storage capacity will be developed at suitable locations to support the state’s energy transition. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Naidu highlighted the state’s commitment to becoming a leader in renewable energy, with a focus on solar, wind, green hydrogen, and related technologies.

Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar described the joint venture as a pivotal move to ensure Andhra Pradesh’s energy security while contributing to India’s renewable energy goals. Special Chief Secretary for Energy, K Vijayanand, emphasized that the NGEL-NREDCAP collaboration could serve as a benchmark for other states in developing sustainable and economically beneficial energy solutions. The first phase of this ambitious initiative is targeted for completion by May 2027.
