Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has awarded Green Factory Building Platinum Certification to National Engineering Industries Ltd (NEI), part of CK Birla Group, for its 75-year-old manufacturing plant in Jaipur. The facility is spread over 75 acres of land comprising of factory buildings and office spaces. The building received the highest level of rating which is given by IGBC for having successfully benchmarking highly sustainably designed buildings.
NEI despite being the oldest factory in Rajasthan constantly been upgrading for more than a decade to transform the facility into one of the best in class green buildings for their green mission. NEI is a leading manufacturer and exporter of bearings. Complying with environmental regulatory norms, NEI follows every major green practice and maintains the highest standards to conserve energy as well as management of waste disposal along with the reduction of CO2 emission.
Rohit Saboo, President & CEO, National Engineering Industries Ltd said, “It is a moment of immense pride and honor to be recognized by IGBC for the genuine efforts made by NEI going beyond the mandatory to implement sustainability measures and improve our carbon footprint". He further added that NEI believes that continuous efforts need to be made to adopt the latest sustainability methods, both in terms of the building as well as manufacturing.
"Water and energy being two of the most critical resources, we shall continue to keep our focus on implementing efficient measures like utilizing solar power, rainwater harvesting, on-site water treatment, and replacing old equipment to more energy-efficient machines and technology. We have also implemented digital energy monitoring systems across the plant to reduce energy consumption significantly", added Mr. Saboo
NEI also implemented rainwater harvesting and have been able to save more than six million liters of water per annum. The wastewater from the factory gets treated in Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) then reused for landscaping and softscaping areas in the area thus enabling no discharge of water to get outside the plant.
Other than that the designed structures of the plant optimize the use of natural daylight which has smart and conservative LED lighting and air conditioning systems to reduce the energy load by 39%. The plant has rooftop solar of 1500 KW. This set up has given the plant to reduce the carbon footprint percentage up to 38%. Not only in Rajashtan but other facilities in Gujrat and Haryana also follow sustainable practices by NEI. The Gujarat plant in the year 2016 also got Platinum Certified by IGBC.
