Nephro Care India Limited (NCIL), in partnership with the National Institute of Technology, Silchar, is working on an AI-driven, remotely monitored Smart Haemodialysis Machine to make renal care more affordable and accessible, according to a senior company official.

Designed to reduce treatment costs by as much as 75%, the new dialysis machine could bring the price down to around ₹2 lakh, a significant decrease from the current ₹7.5-8 lakh. “The prototype is being developed with support from the Department of Science and Technology and Biotechnology, West Bengal, and is expected to be ready within the next 7-8 months,” shared Dr Pratim Sengupta, Founder, MD, and CEO of Nephro Care.

Currently, the majority of dialysis machines in India are imported, leading to high costs. Indigenous production, Sengupta noted, could dramatically lower expenses, making dialysis treatment more affordable for those with advanced renal disease and further supporting the “Make in India” initiative.

With remote monitoring capabilities, this machine aims to make dialysis services more accessible to patients in rural and semi-urban areas, helping bridge the care gap. Government data shows that around 220,000 new cases of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) emerge in India each year, creating a demand for 34 million dialysis sessions annually. However, with only about 40,000 machines currently available, there remains a shortfall of approximately 65,000 units.

Haemodialysis machines help filter waste, salts, and fluids from the blood of individuals whose kidneys can no longer perform this function effectively. NephroCare India Limited is a leading healthcare provider specializing in renal care and dialysis services, dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients with kidney disease across India.
